Compound development for roller applications

The different stages in the development of new roller compounds will be outlined from concept to end product. An example of the development of a compound for a squeezing roller application for the steel industry will be discussed. After setting up the required material specification for the application compounding for the required chemical and physical properties is performed. The different techniques applied for characterization of material properties and processing behaviour will be presented together with the functional testing done on a small prototype roller. In the final phase a roller for testing at the customer is produced. In producing this roller batch mixing, processing and finishing is checked. The results obtained at the customer are correlated to the tests described. Finally various techniques used within Ruma to apply rubber compounds to metal cores will be presented.
