The Efficient Use of Environmentally-Friendly Natural Rubber Latex in Road Construction - Past, Present and the Future
Mr. Colin S. Ruggles, Revertex (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd.
The increased burden placed upon modern roads due to increased traffic volumes, loads and expectation of lower maintenance and improved durability has lead to an increase in use of high performance polymer modified asphalt binders. In the last 3 decades the emphasis has been on the use of synthetic polymers as modifier for aphalt, however prior to this natural rubber was the polymer additive of choice and is still in regular use as high performance polymer modifier in some EU countries and specific technologies namely bitumen emulsion systems. This paper will discuss the history of use of NRL in road construction, how the methods of NR introduction have changed since the 1950/60
